Busy Week!

Whew! What a busy, but fun week we had!  First, our pajama party.  Then, the band tour.  Finally, dissecting owl pellets (some may not think this was "fun") :)  Here are photos from the week:

The rainy band tour

To practice quotation marks we were each assigned a character and they had to have a conversation with each other.  The conversations were great! Ask your child what character they were, and who they had a conversation with.

Your child now has a Reading Log to fill out.  The goal for the month is 200 minutes.  When they reach 200 minutes they will get a Book-It certificate for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.

Reminder: Next Friday (October 19th) we will be going to the YMCA.  Please be sure your child brings a swimsuit and a towel if they would like to go swimming.

Have a great weekend!

Pajama Party!

We had a blast during our pajama party today!  We watched the movie "Shiloh" and ate Dominos Pizza.  It was delicious!  Everyone looked so comfy in their pajamas and relaxed on the floor on their blankets.  It was so nice for me to see the students interact with each other in a "non-academic" setting.  Their real personalities really showed!  Here are the photos our photographer took during the movie:

What great memories we made today!  Today was also the first day of Boomerang.  Boomerang is a group of high school students that come in and teach us many different lessons.  Today we discussed why names are important and the "Circle of Courage".  Encourage your child to talk to you about the "Circle of Courage" and what makes it (Belonging, Mastery, Generosity, Independence).  We will have Boomerang the first Monday of every month.

Fire Prevention Week

It's Fire Prevention Week!  Today the Manitowoc Firefighters came to talk to us about fire safety and what to do if we ever have a fire in our home.  We also got to go through the Smoke House.  In class we have been spending our Social Skills time and Science time discussing fire safety.  Today we made a floorplan of our bedroom and drew two ways to get out in case of a fire.  A fun activity we did was design our own fire hydrant.  There are some really creative fire hydrants!  Here are a few photos of the firefighter's visit:

More Smoke!
We survived!

We all got a few things to take home from the firefighters including a neat bracelet!
